Polla Posavec was born in Perth, Western Australia. In 1998 she graduated from the University of Western Australia with a degree in Fine Arts.
Polla has been a practicing artist all her life, and has also worked for many years as a graphic designer, particularly in the field of clothing and promotional products. In an interesting career twist, she is also a qualified Personal FitnessTrainer as it does the body good to get out from behind the easel sometimes.
Her early work, while diverse, was mainly in the medium of acrylic on canvas or board, with subjects revolving around commmercialism, fashion and pop culture.
Following the tragic and sudden loss of her 31 year old husband of 9 years and partner of 15 years in 2009, only months after the birth of their first son, she stopped painting. A year later, in an attempt to heal and reclaim her life, she started painting again, this time in the delicate medium of watercolour, embracing personal portraits and thoughtful still lifes. Her themes now revolve around the transcience of life, which has understandably become a potent theme in her life. These themes are often expressed through her depiction of natural, transient light and vanitas imagery.
With the world turning as it does, she now lives happily with her new husband, exploring new artistic possibilities whenever her son allows.
